The aim of this project is to provide evidence of the location and nature of wintering waterfowl high tide roosts, the assemblages associated with these roosts and the relative size and importance of the roost sites to key species, as well as any known disturbance activities around these roosts. The WeBs data used for wintering waterfowl counts on the Severn Estuary SPA has certain limitations, as the counts do not identify roosts, and not all of the sectors are currently counted. In order to contribute to NE’s evidence priorities 4.5 & 6.3, we need to establish roost details for all sectors. The aims of the project are to determine:
- The location of bird roosts
- SPA bird assemblage at each roost
- The nature of each roost
- Known disturbance activities
