This 2000 report reviewed the status of a total of 109 species of wader and wildfowl in the Orwell Estuary. Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS) counts over the last fifteen years suggest a 15% decline in the waterbird population of the Estuary and ongoing threats from saltmarsh, shoreline and mudflat erosion, land claim and an increase in recreational pursuits were expected to impact still further on wildlife.
