This paper reported on a pilot study of the relationship between ancient woodland and development that is subject to planning control. The study reviews practices in selected planning authorities in South East England. This report presents the findings of the pilot study and draws conclusions regarding the assessment of how the cumulative impact of planning decisions on ancient woodland in a group of counties could be captured in relation to relevant policies.
