In October 2003, these water features were surveyed by staff of the Natural History Museum on behalf of English Nature in order to determine their merit (if any) as coastal saline lagoons. All fieldwork was undertaken with due regard to the recommended practices for sampling in lagoons (eg Bamber, Gilliland & Shardlow, 2001).Overall, the Moulton Marsh saline lagoons are of high conservation merit, being the best examples of this habitat on The Wash and adjacent shoreline, as well as supporting a scheduled species.
