The development of mixed beech stands in the southern part of Dendles Wood National Nature Reserve were quantified using several data sets collected between 1967 and 1998. The records related to a range of stands and included data on tree size, survival, growth, stratification, mortality, regeneration, storms, mammal damage, canopy gaps and dead wood. The general development of the stands is discussed and suggestions made for future research and monitoring.
