Within the Plymouth Sound and Estuaries SAC and Tamar Estuary Sites Marine Cconservation Zone the migratory fish species Allis Shad (Alosa alosa) and Smelt (Osmerus eperlanus) are protected. The information we currently have for both species is limited so this partnership survey with Environment Agency (EA) will start to build our awareness focusing primarily on distribution of Smelt but also recording juvenile shad. It will collect samples of smelt for genetic analysis for a national EA project helping to understand population size and resilience.
