An intertidal monitoring programme was established at Lundy by Hiscock in 1984. This was designed to provide a basis for following change in a variety of intertidal communities. The sites studied in October 1991 included the rockpools on Devil’s Kitchen, an intertidal cave on Rat Island and intertidal cup corals, species considered to have high nature conservation interest, on Devil’s Kitchen and north of Gannet’s Rock. Other than monitoring of the Devil’s Kitchen cup coral site in 1989, no intertidal monitoring was performed since 1986. In the interim period a road between Landing Beach and The Cove on the southeast part of the island had been developed.
