The Sherwood Trial Area was part of the national Habitat Restoration Project. The aim was to investigate ways of increasing the biodiversity of our countryside. The project focused on reversing the effects of habitat fragmentation using existing Environmental Land Management Schemes (ELMS) such as Countryside Stewardship. This document set out the opportunities available for the restoration of Sherwood’s wildlife, to enable people working in the countryside to restore the habitats which will benefit wildlife the most. The opportunities were based on the best available ecological knowledge and local experience, and incorporate experimental ideas that will be evaluated by ecological monitoring.
