A comparative site assessment of Exposed Riverine Sediment (ERS) beetle faunas in south-west (ENRR383)

This project aimed to enable the nature conservation importance of Exposed Riverine Sediment (ERS) on the Rivers Teign and Bovey at Teigngrace to be determined, by comparing their beetle faunas with that from other sites in South West England. A pitfall survey provided 251 species (7,450 individuals) and a total of 170 species (3,209 individuals) were collected by hand searching. 130 of these species exhibit moderate to near total fidelity to ERS habitats. 38 species recovered are rare or nationally scarce in Britain, and of these 30 species are commonly or exclusively found on ERS.
