In spring 2000 a grid of points was established across Langley Wood NNR using differential GPS. These points were used to sample woodland structure (Jonathan Cox Associates, 2000). In the autumn of 2000 this grid of points was used to sample the woodland vegetation using standard National Vegetation Classification (NVC) quadrat sampling techniques. The data collected was analysed using TWINSPAN. A further field study was undertaken in December 2000 to attempt to confirm the range of NVC sub-communities present and their distribution and where possible relate these to the distribution of stand types mapped by George Peterken.
