This project aimed to gather data on the current practice of decision-making in conservation and to assess the applicability to conservation practice of the evidence-based framework developed to support decision-making in medicine. Current mechanisms for the use of scientific evidence were investigated by examining the way in which a selection of conservation organisations formulate their Reserve Management Plans and Species and Habitat Action Plans. The organisations which collaborated with this study included: Butterfly Conservation, English Nature, Ministry of Defence, The National Trust, Plantlife, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and The Wildlife Trusts.
